Margrit Deppe is a Durban-based musician, educator and director whose career spans orchestral performance, choral leadership, keyboard collaboration, and specialist tuition. With extensive experience in South Africa and Europe, she brings artistry, professionalism, and versatility to every performance and teaching setting.
Biography
About
A highly accomplished performer and teacher, Margrit has built a distinguished career across multiple musical disciplines. She is currently Co-Principal Oboe and Cor Anglais with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, serving as Acting Principal from 2025, and Music Director of the Durban Chamber Choir. Her work combines technical excellence with a passion for collaborative music-making.
Margrit’s studies include a BA Honours in Choral Directing (summa cum laude), a Master of Music in Oboe Performance (summa cum laude), a Licentiate in Piano from Trinity College London, and advanced church music studies in Halle, Germany, where she specialised in organ and choir directing.

I make oboe and cor anglais reeds, using the latest machines from Germany and Switzerland.

Choir Directing
I direct the Durban Chamber Choir.

Organist
Organist for St Cyprian´s and StThomas Anglican Churches, Durban. Duo partner with Yamaha Artist Yosuke Matsui, trumpet, Japan.
